Top Galapagos Activities

Giant tortoises lumbering through highlands, blue footed boobies courting on lava, marine iguanas sunning on black rocks, playful sea lions on sheltered bays, and green sea turtles gliding over reefs. Depending on route and season, you may also see Galapagos penguins, frigatebirds with red pouches, rays, reef sharks and, at select sites, schools of hammerheads. Our Galapagos tours match islands and landing points with your dates, pairing small group outings and naturalist guides to maximize safe, respectful encounters.

The best places to snorkel in the Galapagos include Los Tuneles on Isabela with lava arches, turtles and seahorses; Kicker Rock off San Cristobal with schooling fish and reef sharks; Devil’s Crown near Floreana with coral and sea lions; Bartolome and Chinese Hat with penguins and calm coves; Tintoreras and Concha de Perla with easy entries for sea lions and turtles. Add Santa Fe for playful sea lions and Punta Vicente Roca for rich cold-water life. Conditions vary by season, tides and currents; some sites require a licensed guide and authorized boats.

Top hikes pair scenery and wildlife. Sierra Negra and Volcán Chico on Isabela cross fresh lava to vast caldera views. Bartolomé’s summit steps reveal the classic Pinnacle Rock lookout. The Tortuga Bay trail on Santa Cruz ends at a long white beach with marine iguanas. On guided landings, North Seymour’s loop shows frigatebirds and blue-footed boobies; Española’s Punta Suárez has blowholes and seasonal albatross; Genovesa’s Prince Philip’s Steps climb to seabird cliffs. Our Galapagos tours match routes to your dates and fitness under park rules.

Soft-sand classics include Tortuga Bay on Santa Cruz, El Garrapatero for calm family swims, and Playa de los Alemanes with a golden-hour walk to Las Grietas. On San Cristobal, locals favor Punta Carola and Playa Mann for west-facing sunsets; add the Tijeretas lookout for sweeping views. Isabela’s long Playa Puerto Villamil glows at dusk, with easy snorkel at Concha de Perla nearby. La Lobería offers sea lion colonies and dramatic surf. Our Galapagos tours time visits for safer tides, shade breaks, and unforgettable sunset light.

FAQs

Family rooms or connecting options?

Yes—many Galapagos hotels offer family-friendly layouts. Typical choices are (a) connecting doubles (two rooms with an interior door), (b) family suites or quad/quint rooms with bunks or a sofa bed, and (c) small villas/cabanas with one or two bedrooms. Usual fire-code limits are 3 adults, or 2 adults + 2 children in one room; a few units permit 5 guests (ask for a quint). Bedding can be 1 king, 2 twins, bunks, or a mix; tell us who needs each bed. Cribs are generally free if requested in advance; rollaways may carry a nightly fee.

Connecting rooms are requestable but never 100% guaranteed until check-in; we place a hard note with the hotel and pre-assign whenever possible. Many properties are walk-up buildings (no elevator), so let us know if you need ground floor or few stairs. We can arrange quiet wings, blackout curtains, bed rails, and mini-fridge on request. For holidays, reserve 60–120+ days ahead. Bring children’s IDs when required by local regulation.

Included amenities or extras?

Most Galapagos hotels include the essentials: daily housekeeping, hot water, air-conditioning or ceiling fan (varies by property), Wi-Fi in rooms or common areas, bath amenities, in-room safe, and drinking-water stations (tap water isn’t potable). Many also offer breakfast à la carte or buffet, pool/jacuzzi access, towels for pool/beach, and a 24/7 front desk. Some properties add blackout curtains, mini-fridge, hair dryer, and smart TV.

Extras typically paid on site include lunch/dinner, box lunches, bar/minibar, laundry, airport/ferry shuttles, guided tours, snorkel gear/wetsuit rental, kayaks/SUPs, spa treatments, and late check-out. Island Wi-Fi is improving but can be slow; ask about premium access if needed. Expect Ecuador’s 12% VAT and, at many hotels, a 10% service charge on food & beverages. Cards are widely accepted; carry some cash for tips and small purchases. Eco-friendly hotels may replace single-use plastics—bring a refillable bottle.

Transfers, ferries & check-in?

Most stays start at Baltra or San Cristobal airports. Your hotel or our team can arrange a meet and greet, help with the transit card and park fee process, then coordinate the short bus and ferry across the Itabaca Channel if arriving to Baltra, followed by a taxi or shuttle to town. If your booking does not include a transfer, public options are easy to use and clearly signed.

Inter island travel runs by speedboat on fixed morning and afternoon schedules. Boats can be bumpy, so pack a dry bag and motion tablets. Airlines and boats keep baggage limits, so travel light and keep valuables with you.

Standard hotel check in is mid afternoon and check out is late morning. Ask for early check in or late check out when available, or use luggage storage to enjoy the day. Most Galapagos hotels can hold bags, arrange porter service, and schedule next day transfers so your itinerary flows smoothly.
